Here’s a recap of the thought leadership we covered this month!
This month the Wicked Problem is “Battling VUCA”: In a world that has been fashioned around short-term thinking and quick wins – with very little thought as to the long-term consequences – our leaders and institutions spend the majority of their time devising new ways to battle the ever-increasing volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity that threaten “business as usual.” Despite our greatest efforts to wage war on this VUCA landscape, the world continues to shift in unpredictable ways. The result is a constant exercise in futility that only leads to frustration, equivocation and breakdown. Surely we must continue to fight against forces that seek to disrupt the status quo – or should we?
To overcome this dilemma, we’ve reframed Battling VUCA as Embracing the Long Now, a Wicked Opportunity that makes long-term thinking more common, stretching out what people consider as “now,” and flowing with the possibilities that exist within a VUCA universe.
